Riverwind Casino, one of the newest gambling establishments in the state, opened just outside of Norman in the summer of 2006. It is currently the second largest casino in Oklahoma at 219,000 square feet and is operated by the Chickasaw Nation. . Riverwind features two restaurants, a lounge, a food court, several bars, a variety of gaming options, and a 1,500-seat theater with live musical performances by well-known artists. Although smoking is allowed throughout the casino, there is a fairly effective ventilation system to help non-smokers a bit.
Riverwind also opened a 100-room adjoining hotel in February 2009. See below for details.
Games:
According to Riverwind, the casino is home to more than 2,700 electronic games / slot machines, 45 blackjack tables, and 23 poker tables with games of Texas Hold’Em and Omaha. Also, there are frequent poker tournaments throughout the week.
Members of the “Players Club” can earn points for free games, as well as participate in member-only games or high-limit games.
Music and Entertainment:
Riverwind offers music and entertainment on two scales:
- River Lounge – Located near the northeast entrance, the River Lounge seats 77 and features regular live musical performances as well as a full-service bar.
- Showplace Theater – The much larger Showplace Theater seats 1,500. One of the best places to hear live music in OKC.
Food:
Along with several full-service bars and a food court that features Panda Express, Burger King, Taco Bueno, and Rick’s Café, Riverwind Casino has two restaurants:
- Willow Buffet – Buffet meals are available for lunch and dinner throughout the week, and breakfast buffets are offered on weekends.
- Chips’ N Ales – Offers authentic food with an Olde England flavor
Events:
Riverwind Casino hosts one-time events regularly throughout the year, including many holidays. From a St. Patrick’s Day celebration or Mardi Gras party to events like the “Honky Tonk Tailgate Party,” each frequently contains prize drawings or special games.
Hotel Riverwind:
Opened in February 2009, the 100-room boutique hotel in Riverwind is adjacent to the casino by a Sky Bridge. Rooms are contemporary in design and include free wireless internet service and large flat-screen TVs. In addition, full in-room dining is offered, and the hotel offers four meeting rooms available for rent and can be used for banquets, meetings, or parties. Catering is also available.
