Science Museum Oklahoma in OKC – Formerly called Omniplex

The Oklahoma Science Museum, formerly Omniplex, is one of OKC’s top educational entertainment attractions. With exhibits, a planetarium, galleries, and more, Science Museum Oklahoma offers a rare opportunity to experience an incredible and interactive education.

Founded in 1962, the Omniplex moved to its current location in the Kirkpatrick Center museum complex in 1978 and changed its name to Science Museum Oklahoma in 2007.

Admission and Hours of Operation

The museum is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

General admission that includes all hands-on exhibits, Science Live! and the Planetarium costs $ 15.95 for adults and $ 12.95 for children (3-12) and seniors (65+). Some traveling exhibits may require an additional fee.

Parking is free.

Location

Science Museum Oklahoma is located next to the Oklahoma City Zoo at 2100 NE 52nd in the Adventure District. It is south of I-44 and west of I-35, just off Martin Luther King Avenue.

Exhibitions

There’s everything under the sun for scientifically minded people at the Oklahoma Science Museum. The interactive exhibits and unique exhibits make the museum a truly amazing educational experience. See the ‘Tinkering Garage’ exhibit where visitors can explore the tools and create their own projects. Destination Space has unique space artifacts, like the Apollo command module mission simulator.

“Science Live” is a live science show every day where visitors can witness the mysteries of chemistry and physics, including some amazing chemical reaction explosions, and “Gadget Trees” features the tallest spiral slide in the world . That is only scratching the surface as the Science Museum Oklahoma offers visitors the opportunity to actively participate in scientific and historical exploration.

The planetarium

The Oklahoma Science Museum Planetarium offers visitors the opportunity to explore the wonders of space. See fascinating shows about the stars and the depths of the universe, and get the latest news and images from NASA and the world’s leading astronomers.

Science overnight stays

The »Science Overnight» program allows families to spend the night in the museum. Participants bring their sleeping bags and pillows and enjoy the magic and wonder of science after dark. Each event is themed and includes access to all of the museum’s exhibits and shows, plus specially designed hands-on activities.

Museum membership

Members of the Oklahoma Science Museum are entitled to unlimited admission to exhibits, the Planetarium, Science Live, and more than 250 partner museums around the world for one year. They also receive email newsletters and special membership events and discounts on birthday parties, Science Shop purchases, and educational classes at the museum.

Purchases

Pavlov’s Café serves a wide variety of foods, from bagels and yogurt parfaits for breakfast to afternoon sandwiches and salads. Group rates are available for dinners of 15 or more, but you must call ahead at (405) 602-3760.

The Science Shop has many gift or souvenir options. There are custom t-shirts, unique science kits, and much more.
