Sexual harassment: allegations against Harvard professor

Three women are suing the US elite university Harvard: It had ignored allegations of sexual harassment for years.

New York – Serious allegations against the elite Harvard University: Three doctoral students have sued the university in the USA* in connection with allegations of harassment against their professor. The women accuse the elite university of having ignored the allegations for years. This emerges from the complaint published on Tuesday (February 08, 2022).

The man accused is anthropology professor John Comaroff. He is accused of kissing and groping female students without their consent. If they complained, he is said to have threatened to ruin their careers. Comaroff’s attorneys denied the allegations.

Harassment allegations: Harvard University wanted to “protect its star professor”

“All three plaintiffs have made repeated complaints to the Harvard administration,” said the lawsuit, which was filed in Boston federal court. The women accuse the university of choosing to “protect their star professor.” According to their own statements, the students first contacted the university management almost five years ago.

According to the New York Times, the allegations against the 77-year-old professor first became public more than a year ago through a report in the university newspaper The Harvard Crimson. The New York Times also reported that John Comaroff has been suspended for the spring semester for verbal violations of Harvard University’s harassment policy. Beyond that, however, the university did not accuse him of any sexual assault.

This is not the first allegation against an elite school: the famous “Sciences Po” in Paris produces scandal after scandal. There, too, young women have accused teaching staff of sexual harassment, among other things. (Monja Stolz with material from AFP) * fr.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
