In 2016, the social network TikTok was presented worldwide as one of the social networks with the most projection for the following years. It was during the 2020 confinement due to the pandemic when the network experienced an exorbitant increase in users in Spain. The freshness of his videos, mainly of young creators, put YouTube, the great audiovisual giant of the network, on alert.
So much so, that in less than a year, the platform has launched its bet to compete with TikTok. It is about Youtube Shorts and it has already arrived in Spain.
What is Youtube Shorts?
What YouTube basically wants is for its users to spend as much time as possible on the platform, either watching long or short videos. The move was to be expected as other popular social networks such as Instagram did by launching their Reels part.
The data is clear: young audiences choose YouTube mainly to listen to music , so the platform has devised its own application for these same young people to start creating small videos without leaving YouTube.
In addition, the platform wants to encourage these future creators by encouraging the creation of content, which is why they have allocated a fund of 100 million dollars to distribute over the next two years among the most brilliant creators of Youtube Shorts.
To see this part of YouTube, it is only necessary to enter the platform and they will appear in the home section as ‘ Youtube Shorts Beta’ . If we still cannot see them from the application, we can update it so that they appear immediately.
The operation is similar to TikTok: short videos of no more than 60 seconds , made to go viral at the moment. Once inside this section of YouTube shorts, we can go on to the next ones following the same system as with TikTok.
How to create my shorts?
As we say, the operation is very simple. Now when we go to the ‘Create’ section we will see that the options ‘Upload a video’ and under ‘Create a short’ appear . If we click on this last option we will start creating our content immediately.
Once we finish recording our short, we simply have to press upload and the video will be ready on the platform.
The application has been in a trial version in the United States since autumn and has now expanded to places like Spain and 99 other countries that already have this function in the mobile app.
The success of this new YouTube commitment to concentrating the largest number of audiences on its platform will, as always, be determined by the public and the creators themselves who bet on this new communication channel for their shorter content.
