Working mothers

Women who take a break in their professional career to raise their children are often discriminated against. Not only does it seem that they had to apologize to half of humanity for doing so (beware, if they return to work after the corresponding sick leave, too), but at the moment in which they want to return to working life, that period is usually seen as a space of dead time, in which they have ceased to be people who know about a trade, to be "a simple mother"... as if having a baby did not bring you lessons that you can transfer perfectly to the workplace.

Although they are very rare cases, on occasions we have heard of mothers who, for various reasons, go to the hospital driving themselves and in full labor. But without a doubt, cases like the one we will share are even rarer.

Being a mother and working outside the home is something that on many occasions (if not most days) can become very complicated and full of challenges, especially because of the logistics behind to make everything work, looking for the long-awaited conciliation.

It is no secret to any parent that the pandemic has changed our lives, and has multiplied the work involved in parenting. The confinement and closures of nurseries and schools led us to such a rapid reorganization of our routines that in many homes we had to sacrifice working hours in favor of childcare. What a new study carried out by the Center for Global Development has shown is that this work was taken over mostly by women and that, although to a different extent taking into account the income level of the countries, this occurred all over the world.

I am the mother of two children and, fortunately, the pregnancy of each of them passed without complications. But even so I am aware that I could not enjoy them as other mothers have told me they did. Although there were seven years of difference between them, both in one case and the other, and due to different circumstances, I worked until a few hours before delivery.

Sometimes, it seems that mothers always have to feel guilty about something . Sometimes it may be because of not following certain parenting guidelines...

A few months ago I was talking about the importance of having more movies and series that show motherhood in a realistic way, although little by little we have had options that do, such as the famous 'The Letdown' and 'Working Mothers'.

Due to the pandemic, thousands of parents had to move their work home, resulting in a true circus act for many, in which we must balance childcare and typical household chores with teleworking.
