The Audi A3 has been on our roads since 1996 and has accumulated more than 5 million units sold around the world. The Geneva Motor Show, canceled by the coronavirus, was to be the scene of the launch of its fourth generation. What’s more, it was one of the most anticipated models, due to its commercial success and the importance of its renovation. As a member of the VAG family, the Audi A3 Sportback has had to wait its turn to appear, behind its cousins Volkswagen Golf, Seat Leon and even the Skoda Fabia. It is already available in Spanish dealers with a starting price of 29,060 euros for the A3 with a 150 hp gasoline engine.
The aesthetic changes are there, even though it may not seem like it. The design of the new A3 has matured, with a sharper horizontal line and a longer body. Chrome is very present in its front, frames and rear diffuser, a material that makes it one of the most sophisticated compacts on the market. Following the guidelines of the market and its closest rivals, the 2020 Audi A3 Sportback grows in dimensions with 4.34 meters long (3 centimeters more), 1.82 wide (35 cm more) and 1.43 high (same elevation) . This increase does not change the wheelbase, which remains at 2.64 meters, so we do not think its habitability changes too much. The trunk also maintains the 380-liter capacity.
The aesthetic evolution had to be accompanied by a complete update of security systems, digitization of the cabin, connectivity and security. The new A3 Sportback has more equipment than ever in its entry version, with 16-inch alloy wheels , a multifunction steering wheel, a 10.25-inch screen , LED headlights and some driving assistance systems. In addition, the magnificent matrix LED headlights with specific light signature (optional) can be added. The S line and Black line versions will continue to stand out for their sporty essence, both aesthetically and dynamically.
The supply of engines for Spain consists of a gasoline engine and two diesel engines. The first of these is a 1.5 TFSI with 150 hp, while the 2.0 TDI may be 115 hp or 150 hp . The traction will be front in all cases and you can choose between a 6-speed manual gearbox or the 7-speed S Tronic automatic. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants will soon arrive and by the end of 2020 the appearance of its sportiest models: S3 and RS3 is expected.
