Do you like fireflies? Are you thinking of making your trip coincide with a stop in an interesting reserve where you can contemplate them in all their splendor? We propose this double plan:
Yeongyang Firefly Ecological Park and Reserve (South Korea)
This park is located in a valley of the Wangpi River Basin Ecological Landscape Protection Area in eastern South Korea, something that contrasts with the bustle and lights of places like Seoul. It was declared a dark sky park in 2015 and has since become a popular spot for astronomers. Its observatory allows one of its five telescopes to be used to view the Milky Way. The best time to go is in summer, from June to August. In the same way, this magical place is also a firefly reserve, so, apart from seeing countless lights in the sky, it also stands out for the great conservation of the natural habitat of its fireflies.
Other places in the world that are considered firefly sanctuaries would be:
- The North Caves of New Zealand
- Allegheny National Forest, United States
- Kampung Kuantan, Malaysia
- Tlaxcala in Mexico
- Tuscany, Italy
