The Bulli of the 60s returns to plug in

The moment we have been waiting for has arrived. One of the greatest icons of the automobile , born from a youth movement in the 1960s known as hippies, is passing into the electric age. Yes, we are talking about the Bulli, which this year will reach the European market as a 100% electric model called ID. Buzz. Although in reality this vehicle will not be the first Bulli with zero emission propulsion. 50 years ago, Volkswagen presented a T2 at the Hannover Motor Show whose heart was an electric motor located in the rear. Although its autonomy of only 85 kilometers was not enough to take this technology seriously. But now it has come true. Either because this model, in its many generations, has always been a best seller, or because the Volkswagen Group is accelerating its transformation into one of the leading providers of purely electric vehicles. What’s more, for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, the ID. Buzz is an important element in the continuous reduction of the CO2 footprint of its entire product range.

Entering the matter, and although the ID. Buzz has an air of its predecessor, it faces a new trend based on electric mobility, although with the same versatility and visual design . “The ID. Buzz arouses great sympathy and closeness to people on the road,” emphasizes Jozef Kabaň , Head of Design at Volkswagen. And it’s the proportions that make the ID. Buzz is so unique. The designer bridges the gap to the classic: “In the T1, I practically sit on the front axle; there is no front spoiler. Despite all that it offers in terms of safety and technology, the ID. Buzz features overhangs extremely short. Even in the T1, the first Bulli, design followed function. In other words, its shapes seek to make the vehicle as aerodynamic and functional as possible, above all, to reduce energy consumption and increase autonomy .

But these are not the only details that surprise and define the ID. Buzz. The use of recycled materials in the interior, a very welcoming environment for the driver and passengers, as well as plenty of space for luggage (up to 1,212 liters of boot capacity), make it even more interesting, if possible.
