The characteristics of the face "are more reliable biomarkers of age than blood profiles and reflect better the general state of health than chronological age ", is the conclusion of the latest study carried out by a team of researchers from the Academy of Sciences. Sciences of China and collected by the journal Cell Research .
The work has been based on the creation of a 3D facial map that allows us to accurately predict the physiological age (how old our body is) of any person; Thus, the curvature of the eyes, the width of the mouth, the nose or the distance between the two that changes with age, allow the real age of a person to be traced, which can differ by up to 6 years more or less with respect to the chronological age (in people under 40 years of age), which is revealed by our DNI or our driving license.
To arrive at this resolution, the scientists carried out a morphological analysis of the faces of 322 people between the ages of 17 and 77 years in order to generate three-dimensional maps of all of them. The morphological analysis allowed to identify certain quantifiable facial features to define the age of a person.
Unlike the time that has elapsed since our birth, our physiological age shows the functional state of the organism. Thanks to this 3D facial map we now have a reliable marker to estimate it and also prevent certain diseases related to our health habits and that worsen over time as we get older.
