The Picasso fish

El pez Picasso University of Chicago student Matt Friedman has found the evolutionary transition between "normal" fish , which have one eye on each side of their face, and Picassian flat or pleuronectiform fish , whose eyeballs are located on the same side. This is an advantage for them, since they swim supported on the side of their body tracking the underwater floor, and their "cubist" gaze allows them to direct both eyes upwards, attentive to the passage of possible predatory prey.

Well, Friedman has found the intermediate passage and ancestor of the current flounder, turbot and sole in the fossils of Heteronectes and Amphistium , two fish from 50 million years ago that had a normal eye and a partially migrated one.
