Sony has officially announced the cessation of production of the PlayStation 2 worldwide . News that, in a way, saddens me.
PS2: the console that conquered us

I still keep myPS2, although unfortunately, mainly due to lack of space, I do not have it connected to any television. It’s in a nice place, don’t worry. Nothing will happen to him. I also know that it still works perfectly. And I know this because I have taken good care of her for many years. I try to remember and, if I’m not mistaken, it was the first console that I could buy with my own money. Until then it had been my parents who had given me the different machines that were coming out on the market, but a couple of summers making cars while waiting for the return to class (instead of going out there to sunbathe and see the world taking advantage of the two or three months of vacation ahead of me), they allowed me to scratch my pocket to take one of these consoles home.
The first game to hit the circuits of my PS2 was ‘Zone of the Enders’ . I rented it in my usual video store as soon as I arrived from the establishment where a while before I had gladly bought my console (I think it cost me about 60,000 pesetas, which would now be approximately 360 euros in exchange). I also rented that same day another title called ‘The Bouncer’ , a kind of beat’em up with RPG touches that, as I remember, did not quite convince me. With ‘ZOE’ , on the other hand, I had a great time. From there a lot of games would arrive, including true gems like the ‘God of War’ or the ‘Shadow of the Colossus’.
The PS2 is dead, long live the PS2!
Anyway. We have to get used to the idea that the PS2 , after having sold more than 150 million units worldwide during its almost 13 years of life (a very long cycle), is going to gradually disappear from stores. When the existing stock runs out. It’s really over. No more new PS2s in any store . Goodbye. Think that until not too long ago the Sony console was still selling more than a million units a year. Crazy.
I said at the beginning of this text that the news saddens me, despite having one of these consoles at home, but I think that anyone who has been playing with all kinds of machines for many years, since the first consoles arrived in our homes or early 8-bit computers, you will feel something similar. The PS2 has been a strong, durable, beloved console, and its catalog is full of legendary games that we will never forget.
