A striking fish with an almost flat face painted in concentric white and blue stripes , found in Indonesia, has been identified as a new species of frogfish and named a psychedelic fish ( Histiophryne psychedelic a).
As described by a team of scientists from the University of Washington in the latest issue of the scientific journal Copeia , the extravagant animal was seen by a group of divers very close to the island of Ambo n, in eastern Indonesia.
Its discoverers claim that their first impression upon seeing it was that they were observing "an inflated rubber ball" bouncing on the seabed. Another striking detail of the psychedelic fish's physiognomy is its blue eyes , which are located frontally , just like in humans. He also has a wide flat face and puffy cheeks . And it uses its two pectoral fins as legs to maneuver over the rugged reefs where it lives.
