Do you know that a cat’s personality forms very quickly ? For this reason, we must socialize our feline since it is a puppy and thus avoid future unwanted behaviors both with ourselves and with strangers and other pets that may live at home, be they cats, dogs, ferrets or rabbits.
The best way to have a balanced, happy cat that is not afraid and allows itself to be touched (beware, there will always be cats more affectionate than others) is to pay attention and encourage their socialization. And surely you want your pussycat to be the sea of love, right? Well, get going! We assure you that these methods that Feliway and Hill’s have recommended to us work.
When does the cat’s socialization period begin?
Between the second or third week of life begins the period of socialization of the cat with humans. This phase will last approximately until the seventh or eighth week after birth. This is when the kitten will have to get used to contact with humans so as not to develop possible behavioral problems that are perpetuated over time and are difficult to tackle when the kitten reaches adulthood.
Weaning of the cat usually occurs after four weeks but it is not recommended to separate it before the sixth or eighth. The reason is that while the puppy is with its mother and siblings, it learns to bite more gently so as not to harm the other kittens, it reduces the urge to scratch everything and even understands where it has to relieve itself. Mother cat is a great teacher!
When in its first weeks of life a cat does not have much contact with humans, the safest thing is that it will take fear of them, hide, do not allow them to touch it, much less to be picked up.
Feliway experts tell us that there is a certain genetic component that predisposes the character of the cat to be more or less friendly. Puppies born to friendly cats are often more likely to be friendly than those whose parents have not had contact with people.
