The last love letter is Netflix’s romantic bet for this summer and its first trailer is already available. Actress-turned-filmmaker Augustine Frizell makes her platform debut as Shailene Woodley. The cast includes Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Jones, Joe ALwyn, Nabhaan Rizwan and Callum Turner. This very international ensemble covers very different time periods and locations. The latest love letter takes place in the 1960s and today, and in turn in London and the French Riviera. Netflix’s official synopsis is that of a pair of intertwined stories set in the present and past. The story follows Ellie Haworth (Felicity Jones), an ambitious journalist who discovers a series of secret love letters from 1965 and begins investigating to unravel their secret. As he begins to uncover the story behind the character from the past Jennifer Stirling (Shailene Woodley), the wife of a wealthy man in the industry, and Anthony O’Hare (Callum Turner), the journalist assigned to cover the story of Jennifer’s husband. The love story Ellie is investigating begins to deepen when an archivist, played by Nabhann Rizwan, helps her locate more letters that complete the story. The story is based on the 2013 novel by Jojo Moyes of the same name. “Before reading the script, I was inclined to say yes,” Woodley said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. The actress considered herself a fan of Frizell’s work: “I really wanted to work with Agustine and I just loved her as a human being … Then I read the script and it was very well executed.” Woodley claimed that there were few movies that told something like that in that way, being equally entertaining and intelligent.“You recognize the struggles that being a woman entails, specifically at that time, to make decisions for yourself and choose a path that may not be the busiest, but the most satisfying”, stated Woodley and later concluded “There are not many stories about women who make decisions for themselves despite serious consequences and repercussions. ”We will still have to see the end of spring to begin the summer and get closer to the premiere of The Last Love Letter, which premieres on Netflix on July 23.
