Venice: to enter the city in 2022 you will have to pay, why?

Although there are fewer tourist trips due to the Covid pandemic, certain places remain somewhat saturated. This is the case of one of the most touristic cities, which has made the decision that whoever wants to enter the city of Venice in 2022 will have to pay. Why is this fact?

Thus and from the summer of next year it will charge entrance (as if it were a park or attraction). The medium La Repubblica, collected by Europa Press, announces that the price will not always be the same , but will vary depending on the day and the number of people there are.

Why will you pay to go to the city of Venice

This is due to the tourist saturation that usually experiences each year and that makes the city an impassable place.

This measure was already something previously thought, since charging to enter is something that has been postponed twice. In total, it receives 25 million tourists every year, of which about 14 million go for the day, but do not stay overnight.

What is the price?

The entrance to Venice can cost from three euros to 10 euros, but this price, as we have mentioned, will not always be the same because it will depend on different conditions such as the season and the number of tourists who expect to arrive that day. Something like supply and demand.

How can it be paid?

All of this is under study and testing so that as of June 1 of next year it will be implanted and tailored.

Thus, a reservation can be made through an application in order to pay the access fee to the city.

Who does not pay?

It is clear that Venetians will not have to pay this fee but they will have to reserve to enter certain tourist places in the city.

A controversial rate

As we have pointed out, this is not the first time this measure has been proposed in Venice. But other highly tourist cities have also thought about it.

It is entirely a controversial measure that has received criticism from tourists themselves and also from industry agents. According to Europa Press, Councilor Marco Gasparinetti has cited that many consider this measure unconstitutional and contrary to European law.

The councilor proposes that it could apply to a limited area, such as St. Mark’s Square, but not to an entire city.
