Videogames on the pages of books (and vice versa)

The world is a constant flow of stimuli that pass before our eyes and leave impressions on our mind that can develop and become who knows what. Human beings have been creating cultural products of all kinds and telling stories for centuries and that makes that saying “everything is already invented” is fulfilled. However, in addition to being riddled with external stimuli, we also live in an interconnected world .

Video games began to gain popularity in the late 1970s, becoming the ugly duckling of the entertainment industry who would turn into a swan as his fame spread more and more. Many of the early titles didn’t tell a great story, instead focused on being fun and challenging for the player . Some story arcs were as flat as “you are a plumber who must save a princess from a giant gorilla” and although they made us spend hours and hours in front of the screen, it cannot be said that they moved us with their story .

But time passed and the construction of the games became more and more complex . We are not talking about better graphics or more options in the gameplay, but about a succession of intertwined events that made the player move forward and immerse himself and get involved in what he was experiencing. The plot began to gain weight within the game and managed to provide a level of complexity to the titles that would not have been possible if they had not had a history.

In many cases, both years ago and today, developers and writers found inspiration in books. Countless stories told years ago that provided a structured narrative, the perfect setting for original stories or the elements from which a new world would emerge . Japanese books, comics or manga; Pages are home to characters and feats that, if well-adapted, can provide as good an experience in supporting a video game as they do in their original text format. And even, sometimes, it also happens the other way around.

We give you some significant and noteworthy examples in which video games have been nourished by literature and vice versa .
