Answer: The Seven Wonders of Sweden really do exist. In mid-2007, among all the talks about the new “7 wonders of the world”, the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet called on all readers to vote for the favorite wonders of their country. Failing to make the “7 Wonders of the World” list, more than 80,000 Swedes voted and proudly selected the following wonders to be the ” Seven Wonders of Sweden “:
- The Göta Kanal: With the majority of the votes, the Göta Canal came in first. This 150 mile canal was built in the early 1800s and is very popular. The canal runs from Gothenburg on the west coast to Söderköping on the east coast of Sweden.
- City wall of Visby: second, is the city wall of Visby, which was erected in the thirteenth century and spread throughout the city, 2 miles long. This location is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- The War Ship Vasa: The Vasa was built by King Gustav Adolf II in 1628 and is a major attraction in Stockholm. The king made his ship too shallow and it had major design flaws. Found in the south of Stockholm, Globen (The Globe) is the largest “round” spherical building in the world.
