It is a fairly common neurological disorder , often undiagnosed, characterized by the uncontrollable need to kick and move the legs when trying to sleep , often accompanied by pain. Making it difficult to fall asleep often causes fatigue and sometimes forces the patient's bed partner to find another place to sleep without interruptions.
Symptoms of this disease usually first appear during adolescence and include numbness, tingling, burning, or stinging sensations in the legs, especially when lying in bed or sitting. They are relieved only by walking or bending the legs. It occurs more often in women, and sometimes appears as a side effect of another disease, such as anemia or diabetic neuropathy. Consuming alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine increases the severity of symptoms.
To avoid this, specialists recommend stretching and massaging the leg muscles , reducing caffeine consumption , sleeping in long socks, and taking a hot shower before going to bed.
