Where to get free flu shots in Dallas County

Dallas County has several clinics where adults and children can get a free flu shot. It’s a good thing because 2013 started with a terrible flu epidemic. Even TV’s Dr. Oz said that mid-January was just the midpoint of flu season. So there is plenty of time to get your flu shot, and hopefully it will be effective and keep you from starting to apply it.

People who are on Medicaid, unemployed, or uninsured can get free flu shots through Dallas County Health and Human Services.

Adults

Adults in Dallas County can receive a free flu shot at the Adult Immunization Clinic on the first floor of the Dallas County Health and Human Services Building, 2377 North Stemmons Freeway in Dallas. Clinic hours are 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday. Appointments are not necessary. For more information call 214-819-2162. Adults outside of Dallas County can also get a free flu shot. Get one today.

Kids

The free flu vaccine is available at any of the Dallas Immunization Clinics, while supplies last. If you are interested in getting a vaccine for your children, be sure to call ahead and see if they are available. Clinics are located in Oak Cliff, Lancaster, Grand Prairie, Carrollton, Seagoville, etc. If the child has an insurance policy, it is recommended to visit their healthcare provider.

The current flu vaccine is an all-in-one inoculation that offers protection against multiple strains of flu, including the H1N1 virus.

Flu updates

In mid-January, the flu season has just ended. There is still time to get a flu shot and more vaccines are available. The number of flu cases has exceeded everyone’s expectations, so it’s a good idea to go ahead and get vaccinated.

What about children with special needs?

Talk to your own healthcare provider because every case is different, but my daughter has special needs and her neurologist told her to inject herself, not the mist. His main comment was: “It is tried and true.” That’s just good advice.

The laugh is the best medicine

Okay, just for smiles, Mariano’s Restaurants in DFW has created a special drink to help (jokingly) fight the winter flu. Read more about the Mexican flu vaccine. Suggestion: it is a drink for adults. Enjoy and stay healthy!
