Why is Gamer's Day celebrated?

On August 29, Gamer’s Day or World Video Game Day is celebrated, an activity in which more than 2.3 billion people in the world participate.

What is the origin?

It’s certainly not to honor the creation of the first video game. This fact is attributed to William Higinbotham, a physicist at Brookhaven National Laboratory, who created Tennis for Two with Robert Dvorak in October 1958, putting this anniversary out of the question. Maybe it was another milestone in gaming history? Could it have been the beginning of the entry of video games to the public scene thanks to home consoles? Sadly, neither is it. The first console, the Magnavox Odyssey, was released in North America in August 1972. So? The reason takes away from you a little disappointment.

The celebration of Gamer’s Day started in 2008, when Axel Springer’s video game magazines (PlayManía, Hobby Consolas and PC Manía, all three from Spain) decided to celebrate the date because “such an event was needed” to claim the video game as a work cultural. Finally, these magazines made Gamer’s Day a reality, something that was very well received by users of social networks who burned this date in their heads.

It should be mentioned that this is not an official event, but rather a symbolic event that testifies to the enormous growth of the video game industry.

The companies in the world of video games accepted the idea and every year the celebration has been extended to more countries in the world, making it a global event today: everyone celebrates Gamer’s Day on August 28 every year.

As a curiosity , in the United States they celebrate National Video Game Day on September 12. National Video Game Day is celebrated annually on September 12. Video game players in this country enjoy this day with great pride and enthusiasm. From its earliest days, video games have evolved into more than just an interactive 2D experience: transcending their use and becoming an industry in its own right.

Video games are so important that they even have their special day. If you are a gamer, enjoy this day and share your hobby with all the gamers on the planet.
