Alrewas – The British heir to the throne, Prince Charles, has opened a memorial to police officers who died on duty in northern England. At the ceremony on Wednesday, he paid tribute to those emergency services who "gave their lives to guarantee our safety" and expressed condolences to the bereaved, as reported by the PA news agency.
In the presence of Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other invited guests, the 72-year-old visited the twelve-meter-high memorial in Alrewas in the north of England in the county of Staffordshire, which is to become a new memorial to the almost 5,000 British police officers who have died in service since 1749.
