A white, stylized crown, the ornate number 70 and a royal purple convinced the palace: Student Edward Roberts designed the official emblem for the 70th anniversary of the Queen’s throne.
London – The logo for the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the throne of Queen Elizabeth II (95) next year has been confirmed. In a competition for young designers, the design of the student Edward Roberts (19) was selected, as the palace announced.
It shows a white, stylized crown in which the number 70 is curled into, on a round background that is reminiscent of a royal seal and is held in royal purple. He designed the crown with a continuous line to represent the continued reign of the queen, ”said Edwards, who studies graphic and communication design at the University of Leeds.
The palace had announced a competition for 13 to 25 year olds to create an emblem that would do justice to and please the “smartphone generation”. The selection was ultimately made by leading art experts in the country and a representative of the palace. “This clear graphic design takes us on a simple linear journey to create the crown and the number 70 and beautifully capture the continuous thread of the 70-year reign of Her Majesty the Queen,” said jury member Paul Thompson, Vice Chancellor of the Royal College of London Art.
Winner Edwards will now be able to attend the celebrations as a guest next year. Especially for the so-called platinum anniversary, the United Kingdom is planning a four-day festival of the monarchy from June 2nd to 5th, 2022, there is even an extra day off for all Brits. A big military parade, a church service, a concert with world stars and a horse race are planned – because the queen is considered a horse lover. dpa
