Four vehicles crash into each other on the autobahn early on Sunday morning. The emergency services rescue dead and injured. The course of the accident is initially unclear. Is a wrong-way driver involved?
Friedberg – At least four people were killed in a serious traffic accident on Autobahn 5 near Friedberg in Hesse. In addition, two people were seriously injured and one was slightly injured, a police spokeswoman said.
Shortly before the accident in the early morning, a wrong-way driver was reported. “Based on the current state of knowledge, we have to assume that he apparently also has something to do with the course of the accident,” she said. A total of four vehicles were involved in the accident.
It was initially unclear whether the alleged wrong-way driver was among the dead or injured. For the investigation, an expert will reconstruct the accident, said the police spokeswoman. The accident occurred at the Friedberg junction in the direction of Kassel. The accident site extends over several hundred meters, it said. It should initially remain completely closed to traffic.
“A cleaning of the lane of leaked operating materials by the road maintenance depot will probably take a few more hours,” said the spokeswoman.
A similarly serious traffic accident occurred in Hesse in 2013. At that time, five people were killed on federal highway 260 between Nassau and Bad Schwalbach. dpa
