The British Queen has traditionally opened Parliament in Wales and thanked the helpers in the corona pandemic. She leaned on a stick.
Cardiff – Queen Elizabeth II paid tribute to the commitment of the people in the British part of the country during the corona pandemic at the opening of the Welsh Parliament.
“We are all indebted to those who have faced the challenges of the past 18 months so well,” said the monarch on Thursday in the Welsh capital, Cardiff. “They are shining examples of the spirit that the Welsh are so famous for, a spirit that I have personally met so often.”
The 95-year-old used a walking stick for the second time this week during her visit. She also used an elevator, not the stairs. Previously, the Queen had only been seen with a walker when she was recovering from knee surgery almost 20 years ago. The head of state was accompanied by his son Charles, who bears the official title of Prince of Wales, and his wife Duchess Camilla.
The official opening of parliament was planned after the election in May, but was postponed due to the corona pandemic. Only recently had the Queen officially opened the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh. In the United Kingdom, the electoral assemblies in each part of the country have extensive rights in a number of areas such as health policy. The central government in London determines the basic course. dpa
