Maggie is a mother from Texas who was diagnosed with coronavirus when she was 28 weeks pregnant. She went for a pregnancy check-up and the tests included the routine test for Covid-19, the result of which came back positive 48 hours later. It was precisely Mother’s Day in the United States.
The great concern of the pregnant woman and her partner, who was also infected and could not accompany her to the hospital where she remained in hospital for weeks, was the health of the three babies they were expecting.
The Texas Women’s Hospital published on its social networks the full story of this champion who overcame the coronavirus while pregnant with triplets.
After five COVID-19 tests, the last two of which were negative, Maggie learned on June 4 that one of the babies had a twist of the cord around her neck and doctors decided to perform a cesarean section that same day.
The three babies, Isabella, Nathaniel and Adriel , were delivered by caesarean section just two minutes apart at 32 weeks , and are “healthy, safe and undeniably resilient.”
The triplets have just turned one month old, and are growing and gaining weight while they remain in the ICU.
“Maggie shared that while it is difficult not to have babies at home, it is okay because she knows they are receiving the best possible care from a specialized team dedicated to their health and keeping them safe during the pandemic,” the hospital said.
A message for pregnant women
Maggie, who is also the mother of a five-year-old boy, has wanted to send a message to women who are pregnant in these uncertain times of coronavirus.
Reflecting on everything that has happened, Maggie feels more confident than ever that everything happens for a reason. She advises other women to take their pregnancy day by day and not let the fear of COVID-19 dominate their emotions.
“As a mother, you want to be in control, but right now, you have to accept that you are not in control of everything. You have to let other people help you and remember that you are not alone. We look forward to each day and celebrate every little victory.”
