Meet the Bird of the Year 2012

Unlike the rest of the birds, which lack an external auditory pinna, owls and other nocturnal birds of prey have a kind of ears that help them detect a prey in the dark of night. In order to locate it precisely, the raptor moves its head from side to side with extraordinary ease, and this encouraged the belief that circling an owl could cause these birds to break their necks. The truth is that the eagle owl and the boy can turn their heads up to 270 degrees and that, thanks to this, they cover a 360-degree field of vision without having to move from place to place.
