The intelligence of dolphins is enigmatic and we do not yet know their real capacity. They have complex brain structures that in humans and apes are associated with social skills and empathy , and their brain is the largest in the animal kingdom in relation to the size of their body, after that of the human being. Despite this, they solve problems worse than monkeys, minks and ferrets , and they do not know how to escape from a net.
Dolphins use tools – sponges to protect their snouts – they are playful and learn activities if they are rewarded. They are sociable and cooperate with each other – they hunt together, help each other in childbirth – or with other species. His learning is imitative. They communicate with varied sounds – although their language has not been deciphered -, they call each other by their names and they recognize each other in a mirror, indicating that they may have self-awareness.
