When we sleep badly night after night, we end up acquiring habits that are detrimental to our health. This is shown by a new study published in the International Journal of Epidemiology , which delves into the relationship between lack of sleep and the possible development of different ailments in the long term.
For example, according to its authors, a team of researchers from the Department of Public Health at the University of Copenhagen, individuals who rest adequately and for sufficient time have much easier to quit smoking and, therefore, prevent some disorders related to this practice.
These experts have found that, in contrast, those who do not get enough rest are more likely to become physically inactive , drink more alcohol than they used to, or become overweight. To determine this, scientists have examined the evolution of the sleep and wake patterns of 35,000 individuals and the changes in the health of those who maintained healthy habits until they experienced a deterioration in their night's rest.
