We have played Bowser's Fury: an experiment that is much more than a nice tribute to Son Goku and Godzilla

If for something Nintendo can stand out among many other things) it is because of the originality of its games, so the mere idea of falling before an experiment without ties promises to be a real joy. Bowser’s Fury adheres to that idea.

The additional content that accompanies Super Mario 3D World as it leaps from Wii U to Switch is just one more sample of all the clubs that Mario is capable of playing while staying fresh and, above all, insanely fun.

Mario Super Saiyan

There is no reinvention of the wheel anywhere, just a Nintendo playing the right keys to, combining ideas that we have already seen in other installments, bring something fresh and unexpected to a platform that continues to work like a shot.

Here Mario wakes up to an enraged Bowser and a Bowsy worried about his father’s rampant anger. Both will join forces to try to find out what happened and how to help the villain by collecting the only elements that seem to calm the giant monster a bit.

However, far from being a game powerfully tied to that history, Bowser’s Fury manages to leave the typical plate there and let you play your ball. You have an island at your disposal and the challenge of getting as many Cat Suns as possible.

If you find the right number, you can awaken the giant bell that will turn Mario into that Super Saiyan cat that we have already seen in the promotional material of Nintendo . An opportunity that you can take advantage of to tighten the nuts on Bowser.

A promising experiment

As the levels of the Mario more focused on the narrative already did – the scenarios of Super Mario Odyssey, without going any further – what Bowser’s Fury does is let us go in an open world style environment in which you can run, jump and explore at your own pace.

Your objective will be to find the suns that are hidden there while, after a few minutes, Bowser will reappear to dye the sky black and constantly attack the plumber. If you encounter a Cat Sun , Bowser will return to his hibernation state having briefly reduced his life. If you take too long to do it, it will just go back to sleep.

Based on puzzles, hidden pipes, races against an ink Luigi or simply hidden around there, you will find the suns you need to activate the giant bell and, when Bowser reappears, you can go to touch it to transform into a giant cat and give King Koopa wax to finish sapping his life bar.

As I said, nothing that can be considered as a reinvention of what we already know about Mario , but a dynamic that, based on exploration and platform, raises a breath of fresh air for a pack that did not need many more excuses to invite us to buy. Looking forward to moving on to discover what more surprises he has up his sleeve .
