The rise in the seven-day incidence in Germany is slowing. According to the Robert Koch Institute, however, this could be the result of regional overload.
Berlin – The corona crisis still has Germany firmly under control, but after weeks of increase, the seven-day incidence on Sunday (December 5th, 2021) has fallen, according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). On Monday (December 6th, 2021) the value rises again slightly, but is still below the value of the previous week. According to the RKI, there could be a reason for the slowed increase.
The RKI stated the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Monday morning at 441.9. For comparison: the previous day the value was 439.2, a week ago it was 452.4 (previous month: 183.7). The health authorities in Germany reported 27,836 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 4:24 a.m. Exactly one week ago there were 29,364 infections.
Corona crisis in Germany: Experts assume underreporting
When evaluating the infection rate, it should be borne in mind that experts are currently assuming a noticeable underreporting. Health authorities and clinics can no longer keep up with reporting cases, at least in individual regions. The RKI is also finding it difficult to assess the situation.
The slowed increase in the seven-day incidence in the past few days could “on the one hand be a first indication of a slightly weakening dynamic in the transmission process due to the significantly intensified measures to reduce contact,” said the RKI weekly report on Thursday evening (02.12.2021) called. However, the development could “regionally also be due to the increasingly overloaded capacities in the public health service and the exhausted laboratory capacities”.
Corona case numbers: overview of new infections, deaths and incidence
Day | New infections | Deaths | Incidence |
---|---|
Monday (December 6th, 2021) | 27,836 | 81 | 441.9 |
Sunday (05.12.2021) | 42,055 | 94 | 439.2 |
Saturday (04.12.2021) | 64,510 | 378 | 442.7 |
Friday (03.12.2021) | 74.352 | 390 | 442.1 |
Thursday (02.12.2021) | 73.209 | 388 | 439.2 |
Wednesday (01.12.2021) | 67.186 | 446 | 442.9 |
Tuesday (11/30/2021) | 45,753 | 388 | 452.2 |
Monday (29.11.2021) | 29,364 | 73 | 452.4 |
The case numbers of the RKI can differ from those of the individual federal states. One reason for this is the longer transmission routes between the RKI and the responsible health authorities. The RKI’s Covid-19 dashboard can also be adjusted during the day.
Corona crisis: hospitalization rate is increasing
According to the new information, 81 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 73 deaths. The RKI has counted 6,185,961 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not recognized.
The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was last given by the RKI on Friday as 5.52 (Thursday: 5.47). The value is not reported on the weekend. It plays an essential role in assessing what is happening in the infection. If limit values 3, 6 and 9 are exceeded in the federal states, stricter measures to combat the pandemic can be imposed there.
The RKI stated the number of people recovered on Monday at 5,120,100. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 103,121. (msb with dpa)
