A new study on the coronavirus reveals an explosive aspect of super spreaders. Christian Drosten’s team gives details.
Berlin – Scientists from the Charité Berlin have examined a phenomenon behind which there have been numerous question marks since the beginning of the Corona * pandemic. The research team led by virologist Christian Drosten analyzed so-called super spreaders. The results of the study were recently published in the journal Science.
The scientists discovered an explosive detail. According to this, infected people with a high viral load have hardly any or only weak corona symptoms. In other words: you usually get tested less often because you don’t feel sick. In this way, your Sars-CoV-2 infection will go undetected and you may find yourself in social situations with many people who can infect you.
Corona: Study by Christian Drosten reveals – super spreaders often without symptoms
In order to get to the bottom of the phenomenon of the super spreaders, the researchers evaluated more than 400,000 PCR tests that were collected over a period of six weeks. It showed that more than 25,000 people tested positive for the coronavirus. However, they had different viral loads.

A particularly high viral load was discovered in 8% of the people who tested positive – in other words: This is the proportion of potential super spreaders. In particular, this burden was highest three days before the onset of symptoms. As already mentioned, these signs of infection were often completely absent or only appeared very weakly. This was true for 36% of the people who tested positive. This group was on average 37.6 years old and therefore did not represent a risk group for the virus.
A study by the University of Chicago assumes that only 13 to 18% of all corona infected people show symptoms. * In addition, inconspicuous symptoms can also be signs of an infection. (tu) * hna.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
