Getting pregnant in May: pros, cons and when will your baby be born

According to experts, the chances of conceiving a baby increase in spring, and most people agree that if there is a quintessential spring month, that is May.

Therefore, if you are looking for a baby, perhaps this month of May is the one that gives you the greatest of joys. If so, we will tell you what are the pros and cons of achieving a pregnancy this month , as well as the estimated date on which your baby will be born.

Advantages and disadvantages of getting pregnant in the month of May

Getting pregnant in May has great advantages that you will discover throughout your pregnancy. But we are not going to fool you; There are also some small inconveniences, although these will be forgotten when you see your baby’s face.

In any case, if you want to know right away all the advantages and disadvantages that await you throughout your pregnancy, from this month until it ends, in January of next year, we will detail it below by trimester. Of course, first of all we want to clarify that we refer to the month of May in the northern hemisphere , because in the south the temperatures of the seasons are different, and therefore, some of the advantages and disadvantages that we mentioned may vary.

First trimester: May, June and July

Among the typical discomforts of the first trimester of pregnancy are nausea. Not surprisingly, it is estimated that approximately 80% of pregnant women suffer from them, and it is truly distressing. Although there are many ways to try to control nausea, one of the most effective (at least from my experience), is to go for a walk in natural surroundings , away from pollution and crowds.

And is that breathing fresh air, connecting with nature and clearing the mind is usually an infallible remedy in almost any situation. Fortunately, in spring and early summer this is more accessible than in any other season of the year, as temperatures are mild and you want to spend as much time as possible outdoors, enjoying the sun.

And precisely sunlight is another of the positive aspects for pregnancy , since vitamin D from the sun not only benefits the absorption of calcium (so important during pregnancy) and bone health, but also plays a fundamental role in prevention of abortions during the first weeks.

But there are people for whom spring is not such an idyllic season. We refer to those allergic to pollens , a condition that during pregnancy must be specially controlled by the specialist, since untreated symptoms could have a negative effect.

In addition, if tiredness and sleep are already common symptoms during the first trimester, these could be increased at this time of year due to spring asthenia.

Second quarter: August, September and October

Women who become pregnant in the month of May live almost the entire second trimester of their pregnancy in summer , a season that, although it is especially uncomfortable for pregnant women due to its extreme temperatures, is usually more bearable during the second trimester.

In addition, the volume of the gut in these months is quite moderate , which will allow you to continue making plans in a comfortable way, traveling or showing off your pregnancy without your belly still being too voluminous and heavy. And when it starts to weigh you down, autumn will have begun.

But there is a particularly uncomfortable discomfort in this trimester that can be aggravated by the season of the year in which this stage of pregnancy develops. We are talking about heartburn or heartburn.

This digestive symptom is aggravated, among other things, by binge eating, irregular meal times, the intake of very cold foods or foods rich in fats and sugars. All these aspects tend to be neglected especially in summer, between barbecues, ice creams and copious meals that cause heavy digestions.

Third quarter: November, December and January

You will live the last stage of your pregnancy in winter , between the months of November and January. From my experience, if there is a positive aspect in this, it is that the cold that others feel you will not perceive in the same way, being for you a very bearable winter in terms of temperature.

The reason is in the hormones. The body of the pregnant woman secretes progesterone, a hormone produced by the placenta that causes an increase in temperature. For its part, the baby that grows inside the mother’s body contributes to an increase in metabolic activity and an increase in temperature.

Another positive aspect of living the third trimester at this time of year is Christmas. This date, which is already magical in itself, is much more so when you are immersed in the preparations for the imminent arrival of your baby.

But precisely Christmas is also a disadvantage in the third trimester of pregnancy , not only due to the copious meals that aggravate the symptoms of this stage, but also because of the busy plans that surround it (shopping, family gatherings, commitments, crowded stores. ..) and that could compromise your rest.

On the other hand, it is very important that you take care of your health in this cold season, since colds and flu typical of this season of the year cause very annoying symptoms during pregnancy , also increasing the risk of complications.

And as the last disadvantage of living the third quarter in winter, clothes would also stand out. And it is that if until now you have been managing with loose clothes and summer dresses, in winter you will have no choice but to spend money on maternity clothes , because the volume of your belly will not allow you to even button your coat.

When your baby is born

Getting pregnant in May means that your due date will be in January or early February . This has some drawbacks, perhaps the most notable being low temperatures, cold or snow, which will prevent you from enjoying walks outdoors with your baby.

On the other hand, it is very important to pay special attention to the health of the newborn at this time of year, because in winter certain respiratory viruses proliferate that can be serious for the baby, and whose contagion is more feasible in closed spaces little or no ventilated, as in houses during winter.

However, being born at the beginning of the year has multiple advantages , because when school starts your baby will be one of the oldest in his class. Although there are those who question that this is a positive thing, for me it certainly is, since being born at the beginning of the year will allow more time to mature at all levels.

In addition, some studies have also linked birth in January with higher academic performance and better grades, greater chances of becoming elite athletes, greater self-confidence and predisposition to teamwork, and even greater expectations about their future career .

But when does that mental load really start?
