Getting pregnant in November: pros, cons and when will your baby be born

When we plan the pregnancy, and even if it does not always go according to plan afterwards, we calculate when the best moment will be. Although there is no better month than the other, it is true that the time of year influences how your pregnancy will go.

I tell you, in my experience and according to what science says, what are the pros and cons that await you if you get pregnant in November and your baby is born in August (or September) , depending on the day of the month in which the happy birthday took place. event.

Advantages and disadvantages of getting pregnant in November

We are entering the autumn and the coldest days are already feeling the arrival. Conceiving a baby in November has some advantages, especially during the first two trimesters of pregnancy (which we will see below), although it will also have one or another drawback, but with a wonderful final reward: our baby.

It should be clarified at this point that we are talking about pregnant women living in the northern hemisphere , since we are talking about the seasons according to these latitudes. In reality, the pregnancy does not last exactly nine months, so the trimesters are not exactly three months each, but we will give an approximation.

First quarter: November, December and January / February

According to Naegele’s rule, the probable due date is calculated for the month of August or the first days of September of the following year , depending on when the baby was conceived.

The first trimester coincides with the arrival of cold and the beginning of winter. The heat is gone, which is a good thing to reduce the most common discomfort in early pregnancy, nausea, which is usually worse in hot weather.

Yet few women get rid of them. They tend to appear especially during the morning, but they can do so at any time of the day, and although they are more frequent and intense in the first trimester and then disappear, some women suffer them throughout their pregnancy. So try to include in your diet foods that help relieve them such as banana, crackers, apple, ginger, rice …

Another positive aspect of conceiving in November is that that typical dream and fatigue that invades us during the first months will be more bearable, since taking naps in the afternoon will undoubtedly be something very enjoyable on the cooler days.

On the other hand, doing some physical activity is something that we also benefit from living the first trimester, since we can go for a walk or exercise outdoors without worrying about high temperatures (although it is important to stay well hydrated).

Another advantage is that you will find out that you are pregnant at Christmas time, with the illusion of giving the good news as a Christmas gift, or perhaps you prefer to wait until the first 12 weeks have passed to tell it.

Second quarter: February, March and April / May

After the first trimester, we enter the second trimester, the one that is most enjoyed, since the most common discomforts begin to subside, you feel full of energy and still the weight and size of the belly are not limiting.

The belly will begin to show itself and will become more and more visible. You will have to start wearing maternity clothes if you have not done so yet, with the advantage that with a few essentials such as a maternity jeans, black leggings and a dress that you can continue to use when the baby is born, you will have the closet solved.

This time will be ideal for you to continue practicing exercise. Towards the end of the term, spring will arrive, an ideal time to recharge outdoors, take walks and hikes in nature.

On the other hand, with the transition between winter and spring it is possible that you suffer from spring asthenia, a temporary disorder characterized by a state of constant apathy and fatigue, which is thought to be caused by our body’s need to adapt to the increase in hours of light, the temperature and the amount of pollen in the environment.

Third quarter: June, July and August (or September)

The third trimester is when the tummy grows faster, as the baby also increases in size at fast steps. The height of the belly from the pubis usually coincides with the gestational age , that is, at 35 weeks, 35 centimeters.

You will live the last months in the middle of summer. For me, who is a lover of heat, it has been a wonderful experience despite the extra kilos, and spending the last weeks in the summer has had many advantages.

What will affect you the most is fluid retention, making your legs and ankles feel somewhat swollen, which, added to the weight and size of the belly, can increase pelvic pain and back pain. To alleviate them, the pool is a great ally to cool off and to exercise in an aquatic environment, where the weight of the belly is not felt.

In the last weeks you will be able to enjoy your pregnancy at the beach or pool and your baby will be born at an ideal time that will coincide with your holidays and you will be able to enjoy together as long as possible.

When your baby is born

Getting pregnant in November implies that your probable due date will be in August or early September , depending on the time of the month in which conception occurred.

According to various studies carried out on the time of birth, being born in the months of greatest sunlight is related to:

  • They are cheerful and less prone to depression : According to a study published in the journal Nature Neuroscience , summer light cycles tended to reduce the risk of seasonal affective disorder (winter depression), bipolar depression, and schizophrenia for those born in the months summer and increase for those born in winter.
  • They are prone to mood swings : While they are prone to positivity, they can also be affected by mood swings. The cyclothymic temperament (characterized by rapid and frequent changes between sad and happy moods).
  • They are stronger and taller : Babies born during the summer and early fall will be stronger and taller . The effect could be due to the light-dependent hormone melatonin concentrations in the mother’s body, which could stimulate the secretion of growth hormones.
