"Happy People": Mark Wahlberg on his Eurodance time

The American started his career in Germany in the 1990s – quite successfully. Now he looks back at the time.

London – Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg (50) likes to think back to his short Eurodance music career in Germany. “It was a great time for us,” enthused the former rapper, who had several hits as Marky Mark with reggae musician Prince Ital Joe in the mid-1990s, in an interview with the German Press Agency in London.

“That was also the beginning of my career as an actor,” says Wahlberg, who can be seen in cinemas this Thursday with the video game adaptation “Uncharted”. “I still had a lot of love and passion for music in me back then.”

Shortly after landing his first film role in the US, he recorded the Eurodance album Life In The Streets with Prince Ital Joe and German producers Alex Christensen and Frank Peterson, which included the 1993 and 1994 hits Happy People. and “United” emerged. The duo toured Germany and appeared on the “Bravo Super Show”, among others. “I had the opportunity to continue making music in Germany while I was already making films in the USA,” Wahlberg recalled.

self-doubt

The fact that he uses his musical experience for a role and maybe even plays in a musical film adaptation is out of the question for the jack of all trades. “Singing and dancing in the movie feels really weird to me, it makes me self-doubt,” said Wahlberg, who received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for The Departed in 2007. “But apart from that, I would do almost anything. I was also seen as a comedian,” says the 50-year-old. “I’m not afraid to make a fool of myself. I only have self-doubt when I sing and dance.” dpa
