Ian Gillan wants to wake birds with his singing

Sleep until the dolls? That doesn't seem to be for the 76-year-old. On the contrary: he wakes up earlier in the morning than the birds, he says.

Zurich – The singer of the rock band Deep Purple, Ian Gillan, is an early bird and sings even before the birds wake up outside.

"At six o'clock in the morning the birds start singing in the tree next to my bedroom," the 76-year-old told the Swiss newspaper "Blick". “I always try to outsmart them and get up a little earlier. Then I stand in front of the window and sing in the garden to wake the birds, ”said Gillan.

The band released an album with only cover versions in November. These include titles by Bob Dylan and Ray Charles. If it had been up to him, Gillan said there would have been a Dean Martin song. “Everyone made suggestions. Unfortunately none of mine got through, ”he said with a laugh. dpa
