Nintendo Wii mini

Three days after the launch in Europe of its new Wii U console, Nintendo has announced the launch in Canada of the new Wii mini , a redesign of its previous Wii console that will go on sale on December 7 .

New Wii mini

After six years on the charts, Nintendo has unveiled a redesign of its Wii console under the name Wii mini . The machine will take advantage of a catalog that has more than 1,300 games and various accessories such as Wii Balance Board, Wii Wheel, Wii Zapper or Classic Controller Pro, to make entry into the world of video games more accessible.

Wii mini will go on sale at a price of 99.99 Canadian dollars , less than 78 euros at the current exchange rate, and the pack will include the Wii mini console, a Wii Remote Plus controller, a Nunchuk controller, sensor bar, adapter of power and RCA television connector. The pack does not include component cable for HD televisions and 480p output with 60 images per second instead of the usual 50, a product that in the official Nintendo store is on sale for $ 29.95.

A new design

Wii mini abandons the classic white to present itself in black with a red border. The Wii Remote Plus controller, which has Wii Motion Plus technology included for better motion capture, and the Nunchuk controller will also come in that color, although the range available separately for these last two controllers also includes the colors black, white, blue and pink.

Wii mini lives up to its name by presenting itself with reduced dimensions that, despite not having offered official data and based on what can be seen in the photographs, would not exceed 20 centimeters in length and 15 in width. When Nintendo offers new details on this, we will update the text to include this information.

We lose the online, as well as the backward compatibility with GameCube

The exterior redesign is not the only change that we can find in Wii mini , since some functions of the previous Wii have been eliminated in this new platform. Wii mini has been created exclusively to enjoy Wii games, so it will not have an internet connection , wireless or Ethernet cable, and backward compatibility with GameCube games has been eliminated .

Options such as everything that includes the Mii universe of the console itself or parental controls are maintained , which allow blocking access to games and console options such as changing region, system updates or formatting the system memory, and It is expected, although it is not officially confirmed, that it also has an SD card reader to be able to load images and photos on the console.

Wii mini, an exclusive release for Canada

Although the logical thing in these cases is to try to open the market to the maximum to include as many buyers as possible, Nintendo has released Wii mini as a product that will only go on sale in Canada at a price of $ 99.99 . The idea is to share in the success of the console to those who still do not have a model of it, also taking advantage of the fact that its catalog of games currently moves between 19.99 and 59.99 dollars.

At the moment it is unknown if Nintendo has plans to take Wii mini to other territories , so we do not have a release date or price for our country.
