Since the death of her father George VI. on February 6, 1952, Elizabeth II inherited the British throne. On the occasion of the anniversary, she received selected citizens on Saturday.
London – Shortly before her throne jubilee, Queen Elizabeth II welcomed citizens to her country estate in East England, Sandringham.
The 95-year-old met, among other things, with volunteers from a women’s organization and former employees of the estate, as Buckingham Palace announced on Saturday. Former cooking student Angela Wood was also among the guests. She was involved in the “Coronation Chicken” at the Golden Jubilee 20 years ago, which was hugely popular at the time.
After the medically prescribed rest that the Queen had taken before Christmas, the reception was the first major public appointment. Originally it was said that the Queen wanted to spend her anniversary weekend in seclusion.
The Queen celebrates her 70th anniversary on the throne on Sunday. Her father George VI. died on February 6, 1952. As a result, his eldest daughter became his successor. Larger celebrations of the special anniversary are planned for June. dpa
