A truck comes off the road on the A66 and falls off a bridge into a river. Divers spend hours looking for the driver.
Bad Soden-Salmünster / Offenbach – On the autobahn from Hanau to Fulda (A 66), a trailer truck fell off the Kinzig valley bridge. The truck’s cab landed in the river.
According to the police in Offenbach, it was initially unclear why the team came off the road on Tuesday near Bad Soden-Salmünster (Main-Kinzig-Kreis), broke through the guardrail and fell almost 15 meters.
Divers searched the Kinzig for the driver. The police initially assumed that he would not survive the accident. The A 66 was completely blocked in the direction of Fulda. Motorists had to drive around the scene of the accident.
The tractor-trailer apparently had loaded pallets. According to initial findings, he could have rammed a construction site vehicle and then got out of control, the police suspected. The officers were looking for witnesses to the accident.
The Kinzig Valley Bridge, completed in 1994, is the longest road bridge in Hesse at 985 meters according to the Main-Kinzig District. Up to 30,000 vehicles cross the structure every day. dpa
