Dozens of investigators are working under high pressure after the poison attack at TU Darmstadt. The breakthrough has not yet succeeded. Who has put toxic substances on food? And for what reason?
Darmstadt – After almost two weeks of investigations into the alleged poison attack at the Technical University in Darmstadt, the investigators still have no evidence of possible perpetrators or motives.
The Darmstadt public prosecutor announced on Friday that no information has been received that would have provided a “hot lead”. The murder commission, which initially had 40 members, had been increased by a further ten investigators. The investigation is on suspicion of attempted murder.
Seven people had shown symptoms of intoxication on August 23. According to the investigators, pollutants were found in six of the people affected. A 30-year-old was temporarily in mortal danger.
So far, the poisoning victims and numerous witnesses from the closer environment of the university have been questioned, including by the security service or building cleaning. The number of respondents is in the mid-double-digit range, and further questioning is still pending. At the moment, the investigative approaches and traces, which are now in the four-digit range, are also being evaluated.
According to the public prosecutor’s office, there is still no letter of confession or something similar. There are no indications of a politically motivated act. The investigators are silent about which pollutants were found. It is about potential perpetrator knowledge.
The prosecutor assumes that the investigation will take a long time. It is foreseeable that there will be no further results in the near future, the publication of which would not jeopardize the investigation.
After the first symptoms of poisoning, a large number of emergency services were deployed on the Lichtwiese campus on August 23. Toxic substances were discovered in milk cartons and water containers in building L201. The university has promised help and support to those affected. dpa
