The birth rate does not stop falling in Spain, until reaching the lowest figures since data are collected. In fact, nine months after the start of the pandemic, the INE records the lowest number of births in the last 80 years.
And, although at the beginning of the state of alarm there was talk of a possible baby boom caused by confinement, the truth is that it did not occur. Except in a small Galician town on the Galician Costa da Morte . Perhaps it was something of the meigas, or the coronavirus, or simply the result of chance, but the truth is that in Baio, which has little more than a thousand inhabitants, they have occurred at the same time and in the same street, of a few meters long, eleven pregnancies.
“Confinement stuff”
A few brief words that a Twitter user used to share the news on her account. In the photo, published by the Voice of Galicia, you can see, from left to right, María (34 years old); Vicky (30 years old); Sandra (32 years old); Pamela (37 years old); Berta (40 years old); Belén (38 years old); Noelia (40 years old); Gema (32 years old); Rosa (34 years old); Rocío (38 years old) and Natalia (25 years old), the youngest of the group.
Confinement stuff …

All of them have been spontaneous pregnancies, without any fertilization technique involved, so it has been a thing of nature. But there should be three more women in the photo, since Alejandra, Katy and Lorena, also residents of Baio, have been mothers these days . In fact, the baby of the first one came forward and her mother’s belly popped out of the group picture.
Mothers from 40 to 25 years old
The oldest of the group are Berta and Noelia, both of whom have already turned 40, and although for Noelia, who is six months pregnant, it is her second child, Berta makes her debut in maternity. Berta is seven months old and she already knows that a girl is on her way, whom she is going to call Mariña.
Although they all acknowledge being happy with their next motherhood, they acknowledge that it would not be possible without grandparents, as is the case in many families throughout Spain, as the only way to reconcile, because they all work. And motherhood veterans like Pamela, who’s expecting Liam in a month, advise newbies to follow their instincts.
Rocío, another of the expert moms, also has advice for those who are going to debut in the role of mother: “My recommendation for all those who are going to be mothers for the first time is that they enjoy a lot, it happens very quickly.”
At his side Natalia, the youngest, only 25 years old, confirms that, as in the case of her neighbors, she was a wanted baby: “We talked about it, we decided it and it came, I stayed very quickly, I have no other explanation. four months old and I know it’s a boy, but we haven’t decided on the name yet. “
But the truth is that none has an explanation for the coincidence that has occurred in the town
And while in this Galician town they will continue to receive babies at least in the coming months, it seems that the appearance of the town will change completely, and that its streets will be filled with strollers and children’s laughter. As they look forward to their children, they ask for a nursery for Baio, which he doesn’t have and will certainly fill up. And also a pediatrician, who is already known to have quite a few patients.
