According to a study published in the British Medical Journal , the diet of wine drinkers is healthier than that of regular beer drinkers . To reach this conclusion, for 6 months the study authors analyzed the relationship between the volumes of wine and beer purchased by customers of two Danish supermarkets and the content of the rest of their shopping cart, which involved a total review of 3 , 5 million purchases. In this way, they identified that habitual wine buyers also bought more olives, fruits, vegetables, milk, low-fat cheese, and chicken and turkey meat . However, those who bought more beer were also more inclined to also take home prepared meals, chips, butter and margarine, sauces, sugary drinks and sugar.
Ultimately, buyers (and presumably consumers) of wine took home more healthy foods than those who bought beer. A fact to take into account given that both wine and beer have nutritional and antioxidant properties that make their moderate consumption healthy.
