The impact of the Covid pandemic on pregnant women and new mothers: participate in an international study

There is no doubt that the pandemic has had a great impact on the lives of all of us, but especially on that of pregnant women and those who have been mothers during the Covid. Loyola University leads and coordinates an international investigation to evaluate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on these women and asks for your collaboration to help other mothers in your same situation.

Are you pregnant or have you been a mother during the COVID-19 pandemic? A group of researchers from the Loyola Andalucía University, the University of Huelva, the UNED, the Malaga Biomedical Research Institute, in collaboration with international perinatal mental health professionals and experts, invite you to participate in an international online research .

12 countries (Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Greece, Israel, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom and Brazil) will be the field of the new study to assess the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. These results will help develop programs to support pregnant women and new mothers.

How to take part?

You have to enter the project website https://momsduringcovid.org/es/ which has been specially created and enter “Complete our questionnaire” .

It consists of three online questionnaires about your concerns about Covid-19 and about your physical and mental health. An initial one of 20-25 minutes and another three short follow-up questionnaires that will be sent to you in the next six months and will not take you more than 5-10 minutes.

The only requirement to participate is to be over 18 years old, be pregnant or have a baby under six months, and live in Spain.

You will be asked to provide your email and phone number. However, none of this information will be attached to your data. Once the study ends, all contact information will be deleted forever.

Some questions can be sensitive (i.e. about anxiety and stress) and you don’t have to answer. Your participation is completely voluntary and you can end your participation at any time by closing the browser without penalty or explanation. If for some reason you do not complete a questionnaire, we will send you the next one, in case you still want to participate.

Are there risks or benefits if I participate?
Participating or not participating in this study will not entail any risk or harm, nor any benefit. Your participation will not imply financial compensation or additional expenses. At the end of the survey, we will provide you with a list of resources available on mental health and COVID-19.

What happens to the information I provide?
The personal data obtained in this study are confidential and will be treated in accordance with the Organic Law on Protection of Personal Data and guarantee of digital rights 3/2018.

A few days ago I reflected on the way in which motherhood has changed my life. But when does that mental load really start?
