The most impressive frog species

Frogs are amphibians that stand out mainly for their incredible jumps. They are capable of jumping thanks to the morphology of their powerful and highly developed hind limbs. Also, the smallest frogs are about three inches long, while the largest can reach one foot.

In addition, more than 6,000 different species of frogs have been described. Most of them share their lives between the aquatic and terrestrial environments, although there are also tree frogs. They also reproduce by means of eggs and feed on invertebrate animals. It is not surprising, therefore, that some species are most surprising.

A rather peculiar species is the Allobates zaparo . This frog has bright colors to prevent predators from approaching it, pretending that it is toxic. Thus, their coloring tricks the jungle animals into looking for food elsewhere.

On the other hand, did you know that some frogs live underground? This is the case of the purple frog, a burrowing species that spends most of the year up to four meters underground feeding on termites. This species was discovered in India in 2003, and is threatened due to deforestation.
