Autumn began on September 22, 2021, and now the question that everyone is asking is when the time change will take place in Spain. Well, it will take place at dawn on October 31, 2021, the last Sunday of October. Then we will have to turn the clock back one hour to enter winter time , so that when it is 3:00 we will have to turn the hands back to 02:00.
The time change was born in the 1970s with the oil crisis . Several countries decided to advance the clock to take advantage of natural light. In Spain the change was introduced in 1974.
The change to winter time in Spain takes place on the last Sunday in October since 1996; previously it was held on the last Sunday in September.
Why is the time change in Spain?
The autumn time modification is carried out in all the member countries of the European Union with a very clear objective: to adjust the working day to the hours of natural light . From October 31 it will dawn and dusk before.
According to the experts, the winter time is the best one adapts to the rhythm of activity of the majority of the population in relation to natural light . As the morning rises earlier, more people enjoy the sunlight when they wake up, which is of great benefit to both physical and mental health.
But, does it really mean energy savings? According to data from the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), it is estimated that the potential energy saving is 5% in Spain, about 7 euros per household.
Will it be the last?
In 2019 the European Commission agreed to end the time change in the EU. However, the European Parliament later proposed that the last year with time change be 2021. But everything indicates that we will continue to advance and delay the clocks in 2022. Countries have not managed to reach a consensus on how to end this practice, and there is no clear answer on which time is better for each country: winter or summer.
