An animal rights activist was reminded of the “Jungle Book”: In England two large pythons appeared within a few days.
Conington – For the second time in a few days, a python has been found in an English village.
The approximately three-meter-long animal was discovered near the place where animal rights activists took a snake from a tree on Friday, the organization Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) announced on Wednesday.
The second snake was seen sliding down a street in the village of Conington, near Cambridge. The strangler snakes are native to Africa, Asia and Australia and are not found in Great Britain.
Justin Stubbs of the RSPCA said he couldn’t believe it when he got the call. “I’m afraid this is no coincidence – it looks like these poor animals were abandoned or escaped from the same place.” Stubbs was also on duty in Conington on Friday. At that time he said that he had seen a huge snake in a tree: “The scene was a little reminiscent of the jungle book.”
The second line was very cold and much thinner than the first, said Stubbs. Both snakes would now be looked after professionally and kept warm under heat lamps. “I just hope that there are no others out there,” said the expert. “It is really worrying to think that someone has held these pythons and then may have decided to expose them in this cruel and callous manner.” Stubbs emphasized that snakes pose no danger to humans. But to be on the safe side, keep your distance. dpa
