Weird dreams in pregnancy, what do they mean?

In addition to the discomforts of pregnancy that prevent us from sleeping pleasantly, there are some very strange dreams that seem real, and sometimes very distressing.

It seems that during pregnancy we dream more, but it is not like that. We dream the same, what happens is that we remember them more because we have more awakenings during the night.

If you are a new mother, you may have even more exacerbated dreams. It is normal to feel concern about the great change in life that the birth of a child implies.

Concerns about taking care of the baby, feeling emotions that you have never felt before, fantasies about the approaching delivery, in addition to the concerns and situations experienced during the day, make us have dreams so vivid that they seem real at night.

Vivid and distressing dreams

Sometimes dreams are so intense that they seem like hallucinations and make us wake up upset. We may dream of strange characteristics in our children, such as that they are born with an adult face, with a huge nose, with three fingers on each hand, or that they look like a “little monster”. This is due to the anxiety and natural worry that we have about how our baby will be and if everything will be okay.

It is expected, and even healthy, that our head is focused on the issues surrounding the pregnancy and the baby, and that this occupies a large part of our thoughts.

We may also dream of distressing scenes , such as the baby crying and we cannot hear him, he is hungry but we cannot feed him, falls out of the crib, hits himself, or a recurring dream among pregnant women known as “baby in bed” (BIB , for its acronym in English), in which the mother does not find her crying baby lost between the sheets.

It is good to tell the dreams and share them with your partner so that they are just that, fantasies, and do not become traumas .

If the strange dreams turn into recurring nightmares that cause real anguish in the mother, it is advisable to discuss it with your doctor or a psychologist.

For the rest, try to occupy your head with positive intentions related to the delivery and the baby, imagine the moment when he is in your arms, visualize his face … This will help you to remove worries and attract good thoughts.
