About three years ago, when I was writing for another medium, I published an article entitled ‘Nintendo DS, where legends live’. This post takes inspiration from that one, and it is that, differences through, the current situation of Wii becomes what it was then that of Nintendo DS, a perfect cabin that houses the Adventure in capital letters .
That article about the Nintendo laptop was a vindication. The fact that a large number of games for that console had a questionable quality at that time did not prevent us from finding the best sample, for any platform, of graphic adventures and JRPGs among the straw that dictates massive success (look for that text and you will be amazed at the quality of the titles listed).
The case of Wii is different in the sense that we are faced with the decline of the console and the launch of games for it is extremely rare. The coincidences are that, a platform aimed at the general public, nevertheless collects high-quality hardcore games without any shame. What makes the case of the Wii exceptional is that these titles cover, almost entirely, the decline of the machine, thus contradicting their own origins.
Nintendo has released a video called ‘The great adventures are on Wii’ that perfectly sums up everything said. I’m not going to say names, I don’t have to. It was inevitable, Wii is living its last moments, perhaps far from the overwhelming success that saw it born, but in the most dignified way I have ever seen in these cases.
