Will I soon be one of the unvaccinated people without a booster vaccination?

Is the 2G rule coming soon nationwide? If you are fully vaccinated, you don’t have to worry about it. Until now. But does everyone have to be boosted now?

Berlin – In Germany these days and weeks there is a lot of discussion about the Corona measure 2G. Specifically, it means that where the 2G rule is applied, only those who have been completely vaccinated or recovered are allowed access. So far, one is considered fully vaccinated in Germany if one has received the complete series of vaccinations with the currently four approved vaccines. These are: AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Biontech and Moderna.

In the case of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, one is considered to have been vaccinated after one, with the other three after two vaccinations. The so-called booster vaccination, a refresher, has now been offered since September. The question arises: Does everyone have to get boosted soon so that the stamp in the vaccination pass does not expire?

Do I need the booster vaccination to be considered fully vaccinated?

Thomas Mertens, head of the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko), recently announced on “Lanz” on ZDF that all citizens over 18 should have their vaccinations refreshed. As the reason, he cited studies that indicate a decline in vaccination protection against severe disease courses of Covid-19 after a few months.

Therefore, the traffic light, consisting of the SPD, Greens and FDP, is currently examining whether and how one can shorten the validity of the vaccination certificates (one year). For example, Green law expert Manuela Rottmann recently emphasized that due to the declining vaccination protection, it will soon be necessary to re-regulate who is considered vaccinated. So do you need a booster vaccination, don’t you want to lose your status as a fully vaccinated person?

Booster vaccination: That’s what the Federal Ministry of Health says

So far: The booster vaccination is purely a precautionary measure. So you don’t need them – as of now – to be considered fully vaccinated. Rather, the refreshment is currently primarily used to enable vulnerable groups of people the best possible protection against a severe course of Covid-19. The Federal Ministry of Health writes:

A previously achieved status of complete vaccination protection according to national regulations currently continues to apply. The period of validity of European (EU) vaccination certificates remains unaffected by the offer of a booster vaccination. “

Federal Ministry of Health

Translated this means: Anyone who does not accept the offer of a booster vaccination is still considered fully vaccinated. However, the Federal Ministry of Health also points out that it is currently being checked which vaccination intervals must be observed. nc
