The question of the Union’s candidate for chancellor remains open and the “emergency brake” is to become law. Karl Lauterbach expects the corona situation to deteriorate dramatically.
Berlin / Frankfurt – Two topics dominated the political week in Germany. Corona, of course, but not least the question of who the Union will send into the race for the Chancellery. Originally, Markus Söder was supposed to work for “maischberger. die woche “(ARD) are available to answer questions, but the Bavarian Prime Minister canceled at short notice, so that two deputies of the two possible candidates stepped into the ring: Team Söder was represented by Dorothee Bär, State Chancellor in the Chancellery, who dueled with Serap Guler, State Secretary for Integration in North Rhine-Westphalia, and as a geographical team Laschet.
“Maischberger. Die Woche “(ARD): Poisoned compliments of the union parties
Instead of factual questions, skills or even surveys in the population, the deputies worked on the question of whether the votes in the Presidium of the Union should count or the votes in the parliamentary group? It was emphasized again and again that people appreciate each other, that Laschet and Söder are great Prime Ministers, that of course from the mouth of the respective opposing party is nothing more than a poisoned compliment.

Threats to resign from the CDU or CSU if the other candidate stands, the Union will have to live with that, unless it immediately renounces the idea of a candidate for chancellor. What then appears to be a rather unlikely variant, insofar as the theater is still with us for a long time, because even the Greens actually seem more state-supporting.
“Maischberger. Die Woche “(ARD): The people demand openings
The third wave of the unspeakable corona pandemic is much more acute anyway. Doctors warn of increasingly full intensive care units, the people are demanding openings, the prime ministers are hesitant about urgently needed measures. So what to do, were Karl Lauterbach, SPD health politician, and doctor Dr. Lisa Federle asked. The so-called “Federal Emergency Brake” was finally passed, but so late that the crash hardly seems to be avoided.
“Maischberger. Die Woche “(ARD): Model test in Tübingen
In Tübingen, thanks to the successful corona policy of Mayor Boris Palmer, there was more normality than in most other places in the republic, the initiator was also Lisa Federle. Testing, testing, testing was their idea, which at times helped Tübingen to have a very low incidence. But that is now over, however, Federle described the Tübingen experiment as a success, much to the astonishment of Karl Lauterbach, who, as has often been the case, advocated a significantly more complex test strategy in connection with a sharp lockdown. Testing often gives people a false sense of security. Before corona symptoms appear, people are already contagious, but the antigen test is still negative.
According to Lauterbach, the situation at Cologne University Hospital is so dramatic that a soft triage has begun. According to Lauterbach, the situation will be dramatic in a few weeks, so the time is not ripe for experiments, model tests, high-risk openings.

“Maischberger. Die Woche “(ARD): Too much election campaign in the pandemic
With sight of the eye, the republic seems to run to ruin, the question of the curfew or exit restrictions could still fail or delay the emergency brake. Far too much election campaign seems to be going on, the fear of making yourself even less popular with the people prevents necessary decisions, so the only hope remains for nice weather. And maybe very mundane asthma spray.
Studies indicate that the steroids it contains drastically reduce the symptoms of a corona infection and thus also prevent the threat of overloading the intensive care units. Before that happens, however, the study has to be repeated. Nevertheless: at least a glimmer of hope in a pandemic, which will unquestionably be the topic of the week for a long time to come.
