Muffins, muffins and cupcakes, beyond having the same ingredients in common, are prepared differently and in different proportions, which means that they produce another result. As when we prepare pancakes and crepes: the dough is the same, although in different proportions, some are thick, forceful and dense, the other light, very thin.
Thus, these three sweets are prepared with flour, eggs, sugar, butter and baking powder, in all three cases the amounts are different and also the shake in all three is also different , which leaves us fluffier than others.
What a difference to muffins, muffins and cupcakes:
- Cupcakes: l as muffins or Madeleine, are small traditional pastries from France. The originals were shaped like a seashell because the molds where they were cooked (or cooked, because there are still those who make them that way) had holes with these shapes. Currently they are made in small individual round, fluted paper molds .
One of the differences between muffins, muffins and cupcakes is that the dough is flattened to fill it more with air and thus get it to grow in the oven and form that characteristic pompadour. Another difference is that oil is used instead of butter .
- Muffins : They are British, specifically from England , and they look a lot like what we Spaniards know as cupcakes. They can be made salty. In its sweet version, the consistency is much denser than muffins or cupcakes , and they are beaten as little as possible so that no air enters the dough or bubbles form. Thus, when baked, they grow flush with the mold, with barely a pompadour .
On the other hand, they have less sugar as they are usually taken at breakfast and snacks, with tea . It is usual that nuts and other fruits are incorporated, and in salty muffins, cheeses, vegetables, sausages … they do not have glaze , like cupcakes, or any type of topping.
- Cupcakes : these are small individual cakes , hence their name (“cake cup”) and are presented in paper molds. Its origin is North American. They use butter and the shake is just right for them to grow, but not to fill with air. They are decorated with glazes, creams of various flavors and colors. The ingredients can be those of any cake. They are common at children’s parties.
These are the basic differences between muffins, muffins and cupcakes, so that the next time you read or prepare one of these delicious desserts, you will know with certainty the who’s who of these cupcakes that came to sweeten you mornings and afternoons.
